5月17日 Learning New Photoshop Skills.(C) Ulstertower Photographic Many months of past and I see that yet once again I have forgot about this little space of mine here on spaces. So to keep this little space of mine going I would like to blog about what it is that I have been up to lately?
Well for quite sometime now I have not been as active with my camera as I wished I was. This is because I have learnt another part of the photographic industry which I feel is just as important to have skills on in addition to the skills one needs with a camera. Yes you have guessed it I'm talking about working with such editing packages such as Photoshop, Coral etc... I have been spending many hours working on photoshop to help me improve on the quality of my images.
As a matter of fact the image which you do see at the bottom of this blog was made with out no photography being involved whatsoever. So it should give you guys a pretty good idea of just how powerful editing packages such as Photoshop really are.
Moving on there is quite a bit of banter going around the net at the minute with regards to thosePhotographers that do believe in working with editing packages such as Photoshop in addition to those Photographers who do NOT believe to work with editing packages such as Photoshop and instead prefer to get the image correct “In Cam” instead. I my-self do understand both sides of this on going debate and do not really like to get involved in it my-self, as the way I see it it‘s just tit for tat.
So to sum this little blog of mine up…..? Well I’ve been spending most of time lately learning new skills on Photoshop.
(C) Ulstertower Photographic 2月16日 Working With Photographs(C) Ulstertower Photographic I know that I have not been on Spaces much recently, so I do apologise very much to all my readers. But I have been working very hard on my own photography in the hope that I can improve on the quality of my work. Which I do think that I am currently achieving. But one thing happened to me recently when I worked with a Model in a very dim lit church with the minimal of equipment. My images did not come out any where near the standards that I had expected them to be. So later on in the day this seen me spend the entire night editing the images in Photoshop with the hope that I could better improve their quality. However, during editing of these images I for some unknown reason paused for a moment and looked at my image…. I mean I really looked at my photograph and something then “HIT ME” and this is the “Power Of A Story” that is behind a photograph. (C) Ulstertower Photographic What I mean is that I have now learnt that a photograph does not need to be manufactured in any set way to have an impact on people. For example, who said that an image should be made with no “NOISE”?? Also who said that every shadow and highlight detail needs to be 100% perfect?? Plus does it really matter what ISO / Aperture / Shutter Speed the photograph was really shot on??? To me the answer is a “NO” it does not matter at all how you manufacture an image. This is because your photograph has only got one purpose at the end of it and that purpose is to “sell a story to the viewer”. The more of a story line that you add to your photograph then that will make that photograph even more powerful. What I’m trying to say and I hope this makes sense is that regardless of what people call quality with regards to photographs if your photograph can tell / sell that STORY to the viewer.... then you have indeed got a very powerful photograph. End of story.......... (C) Ulstertower Photographic 12月13日 I can't beleive I've been shooting Lamborghini's!!(C) Ulstertower Photographic Today is one of those days when I am really, really happy to be alive!! For today I have had the opportunity to shoot some real Lamborghini's in Manchester. Plus I feel so relieved now because this experience was for sure a challenge. The low light conditions really did put up a great fight. As a matter of fact at one point I thought that I was beaten and was considering just given up. But I decided not to and instead just kept adjusting the settings on my camera and shot, shot, shot. I’m so glad that I did not give up because these are the images that I have now walked away with.

I was asked to do a paid shoot for a customer on the exact same day that I did take this image of Stockport.
And I am oh so glad that I was asked to do a paid shoot on this day, because I would not of had my camera otherwise.
So when I had finished doing my paid work....... I left the customers premises and noticed that the sky looked great. Then all of a sudden it hit me " I remembered an image that I had once took of Stockport ". So I put two and two together and came up with the above shown image as a result. So to finish this blog with I’m so glad that I had my camera with me that day. 11月26日 Posing In The RainAbove: Posing In The Rain (C) Ulstertower Photographic I have been trying for some time to find one shot of the Models that I have worked with to try and fit this image as best as can be. However, I have not got that many images of Models so this is the best human subject I have at present to fit in with this image. 7月7日 Am I An Addict ?Right so I was out doing a spot of Urbex ( Urban Exploration ) when I came across this...............................
Above: A used needle (C) Ulstertower Photographic 2008 Above: It asks "Am I an addict" ? (C) Ulstertower Photographic 2008 Above: Another two unused needles' (C) Ulstertower Photographic 2008 History is so very interestingMy interest today was with the now disused STOCKPORT - TIVIOT DALE Station. Please if you are reading this blog entry then please do Click Here to see what Tiviot Dale Tunnel looked like in April 1984.
So today I decided to go and look at Tiviot Dale Tunnel to see what it looks like now at this present moment in time i.e. Sunday 06 July 2008. Now I have added my images to show you my readers my findings of what I did see inside the Tiviot Dale Tunnel which is indeed 24 years later after this image was taken. I'm sure that you will all agree with me on this one that history is ever so very interesting

Please note that this image is dedicated to my good friend Lisa of Red Willow Photography love you loads girl, but you already knew that (C) Ulstertower Photographic 2008 7月1日 Artist or CriminalMy good freind Lisa Of Red Willow Photography left me a comment on my flickr site asking "What kind of people make these" this is a very good question people!! When it comes to Graffiti some people class it as being "Criminal" but then we have the other people who class it as being "Art". So this is my question to you all, what do you think Graffiti is, is it Criminal or is it a Art? (C) Ulstertower Photographic 2008 (C) Ulstertower Photographic 2008 6月30日 Play Ground and Junk6月29日 My Best Night Photography Shoot Ever To Date!!Whilst most people last night were out drinking in the pubs and clubs. I instead spent my time walking around Stockport in the early hours of the morning in order to make some images for my Night Photography Project. I am so glad that I did go now, for I did enjoy every single minute of it. Eventually I found my-self and the Nikon D40 playing on a Building Site. Which is something I have not done since I was the age of ten lol. I hope you all enjoy the images.

6月23日 I shot a very fast small bird whilst in flight!!Above: The evidence of me shooting a very small but very fast bird in flight. (C) Ulstertower Photographic 2008 Wow!! I can not beleive that for the very first time in my life I have managed to shoot a very small but very fast bird in flight!! I'm so happy now, yes the image does not have that "Wow" factor about it, but nonetheless if you think that you can do better then please do go ahead. It took me about 30 mins to shoot this individual at the River Mersey in Stockport ;) 6月8日 Horse Play & Dead LeavesAbove: Horse Play (NB: Ears perked up, all legs visible) (C) Ulstertower Photographic 2008 My weekend has now drawn to a close and a new week is ready to start with my day time employer. So before I head back to yet another week of confusion, problems, difficult customers, incompetent employees, stress etc... I decided to go out for a bit of a explore (NB: I only wanted to break in my new Hiking Footwear really), but I only got two images from this outing of mine. The first shot is indeed the shot that is shown above, I love the way that this horse has both ears perked up, also I like the way that all four legs are visible, in addition to the setting sun reflecting of her / his face. Now the second shot is, yes you've guessed it, is the shot that is shown below. But, prior to me taken this shot, I had seen these “Dead Leaves” from a distance whilst on my approach to them. At first I thought that this eye attracting colour was “Flowers”. However, when I got closer all was revealed to me, and this eye attracting colour was in fact “Dead Leaves” which had fell off a tree above. I have to say it, I for one found this a very attractive sight. Above: Dead Leaves (NB: From a distance I thought they were flowers) (C) Ulstertower Photographic 2008 6月6日 Decisons, Decisons, Decisons....etc......Above: Decisons; This individual must make a decision as to which way the group should go. Will He Take The Group Left Or Right? (C) Ulstertower Photographic 2008 What I love most about this image above, is the simplicity of what it is that it is saying. This is to say, that, the Leader Of The Group, has now got to make a decision as to if he should take the group on a left turn? Or should he take the group on a right turn? Once he gets to the end of this tunnel ? This image does indeed strongly remind me of the “Decisions” that we as mortals do have to face / make on a regular daily basis. Here is a classic example of what I do mean with regards to us mortals having to face to make "Decisions". “Mrs X” has just done a very bad thing to “Mr Y”. However, when “Mr Y” learns of “Mrs X” wrongdoings towards him. “Mr Y” is faced with a “Decision” as to what he should do next? Should his "Decision" be to fight “Mrs X” with regards to her wrongdoings towards him? Or should his "Decision" be to simply just walk away from “Mrs X” with regards to her wrongdoings towards him? 5月3日 Nikon D40: First Night In The FieldAbove: Christian, was expected to include startrails. (C) Ultertower Phtoographic 2008 I looked out the window last night only to find that it was indeed a clear sky. I turned around and looked at my Nikon D40 just sitting there in addition to my tripod. I made the decision to head out into the field and take some new Night Photography Shots. At first it was my intention to try and get some Star Trail Shots, however, once I was in the field, it had hit me again, after my first exposure that Light Pollution had once again played it’s part in making sure that my images shot were no where near the effectiveness as which I had hoped them to be. So once again I was forced to work under the conditions of light pollution. Christian is the end result from my first night in the field with my Nikon D40. |
